Tom Cruise to topline “The Mummy” remake for Universal

PanARMENIAN.Net - Tom Cruise is in talks to star in Universal’s reboot of the classic, “The Mummy”, TheWrap said citing an individual familiar with the negotiations.

Unlike the previous films starring Brendan Fraser, the remake will be set in present day, while other plot details remain under wraps.

Alex Kurtzman is on board to direct, while Chris Morgan and Sean Daniel will produce alongside Kurtzman. Jon Spaihts is writing the script.

A Universal spokesperson had no comment.

The reboot is set for a March 24, 2017 release date, while the film is set to be the first in a series of monster movies while the studio hopes to build a cinematic universe out of its classic films.

Cruise recently starred in “Mission Impossible — Rogue Nation,” which has grossed $682 million worldwide since its release in July.

He is currently filming “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back” and has “Mission Impossible 6” lined up, which begins shooting next August.
