“American Hustle” helmer to receive Cinematic Imagery Award

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Art Directors Guild has selected David O. Russell as the recipient of its Cinematic Imagery Award, Variety reports.

The guild will present Russell, who helmed “American Hustle”, “Silver Linings Playbook” and “Joy,” with the award at its 20th annual awards ceremonies on Jan. 31 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

The Cinematic Imagery Award is given to those whose body of work in the film industry has enhanced the visual aspects of the movie-going experience. Previous recipients have been Christopher Nolan, Martin Scorsese, Clint Eastwood, John Lasseter, George Lucas, Frank Oz and Steven Spielberg.

“Year after year David O. Russell has delivered consistent excellence and creativity in his motion pictures,” said Council Chair Marcia Hinds. “His films are not genre specific. They are story and character specific and an integral part of those stories is the production design.”

Russell received Academy Award nominations for best director for “The Fighter,” “Silver Linings Playbook” and “American Hustle,” as well as a best adapted screenplay nomination for “Silver Linings Playbook” and a best original screenplay nom for “American Hustle.”

Fox opens “Joy,” starring Jennifer Lawrence, on Dec. 25.
