Google rolls out shared albums feature for Photos

PanARMENIAN.Net - Since breaking off into its own product, Google Photos has been on a bit of a roll as far as adding new features quickly. One such feature rolled out Thursday, December 10 — shared albums, TechCrunch reports.

TechCrunch has been playing around with the feature that was originally announced back at Google’s event in September for about a week and it does exactly what you’d expect, share photos in an album with anyone you want. There’s a few twists that make this dead simple.

The feature is compatible to iOS, Android and web.

TechCrunch chatted with the Google Photos Product Lead, David Lieb, about shared albums and the reason why they were such an important feature to get out into the wild…especially before the holidays.

Lieb said: "On one end of the photo sharing spectrum you have sharing on social networks. It’s extremely popular. You choose your most aspirational photos and you get lots of likes you feel good. On the other end you have 1-1 conversations with people in WhatsApp, Hangouts, Messages, etc. You’re taking photos of things you could buy for lunch, or asking people “should I buy this dress?” But if you look at where most of the photos we take sit on that spectrum, it’s somewhere in the middle of those two."
