Facebook to roll out offline news updatesDecember 14, 2015 - 10:45 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Soon you won't need an internet connection in order to see what's going on in your friends' lives as Facebook tests offline News Feed updates, Digital Spy reports. The new offline/slow connection mode will give users something new to read even when in a signal black spot by showing previously downloaded but unread content from your friends' feeds. Just like its online News Feed, the offline mode will rank posts based on their perceived relevance, meaning you won't simply be subjected to that random guy from work's inane chatter and breakfast snaps. In order to further bolster its offline offering, Facey B could also go fishing for new content in the background when signal is sufficient. "Our mission with News Feed is to connect people with the stories that matter most to them, but if people's News Feeds aren't loading because of poor internet connections, we can't show them the most relevant stories," Facebook wrote in an official blog post. "As a next step in improving people's experiences on slower internet connections, we are shipping several changes that will more efficiently show you relevant stories in your News Feed when you're on a slow connection and will let you compose comments on posts when you're offline." The social giant added: "We're also testing improvements to keep these stories up to date throughout the day by periodically retrieving new stories when you have a good connection. This helps us make sure the stories we have available are the most relevant and current." Despite entering testing, it is currently unclear when offline features will be rolled out to all users.
