PanARMENIAN.Net - Ron Howard's "In the Heart of the Sea" sunk at this weekend's box office, launching to an estimated $11 million after debuting in 3,103 theaters. That was considered a dismal start for a big budget film which cost roughly $100 million to make, AceShowbiz reports.

The film is the latest adult-oriented drama to flop at the box office after "Steve Jobs", "Our Brand Is Crisis" and "Burnt". "The adult audience has been slow to come out and that's frustrating because this is a story well told," said Jeff Goldstein, Warner Bros. distribution executive vice president.

Goldstein admitted that the studio was initially optimistic about the movie, considering that Howard is a high-profile director. "We stand behind Ron and his vision for the story," Goldtein said. "We believe in him. He's a terrific filmmaker. But some movies work and unfortunately some movies don't."

With the new release drowning, "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2" topped the chart again for the fourth straight weekend with around $11.3 million from 3,651 theaters. The final installment of "The Hunger Games" movie series has garnered $244.5 million domestically for a global total of $564.6 million.

Rounding out the top five were "The Good Dinosaur", "Creed" and "Krampus". The dinosaur movie nabbed third place with approximately $10.5 million, bringing its domestic total to $89.7 million. Meanwhile, the "Rocky" spin-off was in the fourth position with an estimated $10.1 million. As for the Christmas horror movie, it dropped 51 percent in its second weekend with approximately $8 million.
