Fitbit surges to the top of App Store chart

PanARMENIAN.Net - Santa must have delivered a lot of Fitbits this year as the company's official app shot straight to the top of the U.S. App Store chart on Christmas Day, Digital Spy reports.

The app climbed 20 places on the 'free' chart between Christmas Eve and the afternoon of December 25, according to data from analyst App Annie.

Fitbit's app has since been knocked from its perch, but the downloads spike indicates that scores of new fitness trackers were activated over Christmas.

Reports suggest that the company's stock shot up by around 5% in pre-market trading this week following the Christmas boom.

Fitbit traditionally performs well during the fourth quarter of the year, having sold 5.28 million trackers during that period in 2014, more than the first three quarters combined.

The firm offers a broad range of fitness devices spanning the entire pricing spectrum, a strategy that has helped it maintain its position as the market leader in wearables.
