Ridley Scott to helm “The Prisoner” British TV series adaptation

PanARMENIAN.Net - Director Ridley Scott may be currently busy working on "Alien: Covenant", but that doesn't stop him from taking another project. As AceShowbiz reports citing Deadline, the renowned helmer is in talks to direct "The Prisoner", the big-screen version of 1968 British television series of the same name.

Several A-list scribes have had a shot at writing the drafts of the script over the years, including Christopher McQuarrie ("The Usual Suspects"). The most recent version was by William Monahan ("The Departed"). Universal and Scott are now looking for a new scriptwriter to come on board the project, which has been in the works at Universal for several years now. The movie adaptation is being produced by Scott Stuber and Dylan Clark of Bluegrass Films. "Interstellar" director Christopher Nolan also circled the film at one point.

The single-season TV series was created, written and directed by Patrick McGoohan. It centers on a former government agent (McGoohan) who quits his job only to be abducted and held captive in an idyllic yet bizarre village resort which is isolated from the world. He can't escape because he knows too much, but that doesn't stop others from trying to catch him for his knowledge.

While Scott is prepping the "Prometheus" sequel, he is in the midst of Oscar campaign of "The Martian", which is up for Best Picture in the Musical or Comedy at the Golden Globes.
