Golden Globes: Leonardo DiCaprio wins Best Actor for “The Revenant”

PanARMENIAN.Net - Leonardo DiCaprio won Best Actor - Motion Picture, Drama for his performance in "The Revenant" at the 73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, January 10, AceShowbiz reports. "What an incredible honor. Wow, that meant a lot," said the actor who won over fellow actors Bryan Cranston ("Trumbo"), Michael Fassbender ("Steve Jobs"), Eddie Redmayne ("The Danish Girl") and Will Smith ("Concussion (2015)").

During his acceptance speech, DiCaprio thanked director Alejandro G. Inarritu, his parents and co-star Tom Hardy while also giving shoutout to indigenous community all over the world. "I wanna share this award with all the first nations people represented in this film and all the indigenous community around the world," DiCaprio said.

In addition to DiCaprio's victory, Inarritu took home an award, becoming Best Director in a Motion Picture for his work in "The Revenant". The movie itself was named Best Motion Picture, Drama at the ceremony.

Also announced as winners at the awards show were Jennifer Lawrence and Brie Larson. Lawrence managed to defeat a series of actresses such as Melissa McCarthy among others to win Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Comedy for her performace as Joy Mangano in "Joy". Meanwhile, Larson won Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama for her performance in "Room".

As previously teased, Denzel Washington received the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Sunday show. Bringing his wife and children up on stage to accept the award, Washington was honored for his extraordinary contributions to the entertainment world.

He started the acceptance speech by mentioning his notable film credits such as "Inside Man", "Malcolm X" and "Training Day". "You really do forget everything you're supposed to do [up here]," Washington said at the podium. "I'm speechless. I want to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press for supporting me over the years. They always made me feel like a friend - part of the party." He went on thanking his first agents, the late Ruth Aaronson and Peter Kelly before mentioning his parents. Struggling to read a paper on his hand, Washington joked that he did need his glasses.
