Leonardo DiCaprio’s "Revenant" leads Oscar nominations with 12 nods

PanARMENIAN.Net - The nominees for the upcoming 88th annual Academy Awards are unveiled. Hot on heels of its big wins at the Golden Globe Awards, "The Revenant" leads the pack with a total of 12 nods. "Mad Max: Fury Road" trails behind with 10 and "The Martian" follows with 7, AceShowbiz reports.

Those three movies are up for Best Picture, the most coveted prize at the much-awaited Oscars 2016. They are joined in the stiff competition by other feature films such as "The Big Short", "Bridge of Spies", "Brooklyn", "Room", and "Spotlight".

The contenders for Best Actor prize are Leonardo DiCaprio ("The Revenant"), Matt Damon ("The Martian"), Bryan Cranston ("Trumbo"), Michael Fassbender ("Jobs"), and Eddie Redmayne ("The Danish Girl").

Meanwhile, "Room" actress Brie Larson, "Brooklyn" star Saoirse Ronan, and "Spotlight" female lead Cate Blanchett are vying for Best Actress along with Jennifer Lawrence ("Joy") and Charlotte Rampling ("45 Years").

Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, who has just won Best Director at Golden Globes, is once again nominated in the category at the Oscars. He is pitted against Adam McKay ("The Big Short"), George Miller ("Mad Max: Fury Road"), Lenny Abrahamson ("Room"), and Tom McCarthy ("Spotlight").

The winners will be announced at a ceremony to take place on February 28 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California at 5:30 P.M. PST / 8:30 P.M. EST. Chris Rock is set to serve as a host.
