Celine Dion cancels shows after husband Rene Angelil's death

PanARMENIAN.Net - It's the end of the throat cancer battle for Rene Angelil. The husband and longtime manager of Celine Dion died at his suburban Las Vegas home on Thursday, January 14 morning. He was 73, AceShowbiz said.

"It is with deep sadness that we announce that Rene Angelil, aged 73, died this morning at her residence in Las Vegas after a long and courageous fight against cancer. The family wishes to live the mourning in privacy," a post on Dion's Facebook page read. Her official site added that "more details will be provided at a later time."

Clark County Coroner John Fudenberg said Angelil died in Henderson under the care of a doctor. No investigation is expected because he died of natural causes. Dion has canceled two shows at Caesars Palace this weekend and is scheduled to return on February 23.

Angelil was diagnosed with throat cancer in 1998. Dion had withdrawn herself away from the limelight several times to care for him. Last year, his health got so bad she had to scrap her Las Vegas shows to rush to his bedside. However, his death reportedly is unexpected because he had recently felt much better. TMZ's sources said Angelil and Dion were even planning a business meeting on Thursday.

Angelil is survived by 14-year-old son Rene-Charles, 5-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy as well as a son and a daughter from his previous two marriages.
