Kit Harington to play “Doctor Faustus” in contemporary update

PanARMENIAN.Net - While he maintains that Jon Snow is indeed dead, Game Of Thrones‘ Kit Harington is prepping for a return to the living theater — and a deal with the devil. He’ll play Doctor Faustus at London’s Duke of York Theatre from April 9 with tickets on sale from today (January 26). Baz Bamigboye at the Daily Mail was first with the news which Harington’s publicist confirmed to Deadline.

Olivier Award winner Jamie Lloyd is helming this take on Christopher Marlowe’s classic which transports the 400-year-old story to a celebrity-obsessed society of greed and instant gratification. Lloyd last directed James McAvoy to a 2015 Evening Standard Theatre Award in The Ruling Class at Trafalgar Studios.

Ambassador Theatre Group describes the new take on Faustus as “explosive and magical.” Harington’s titular character makes a pact with Lucifer, selling his soul in return for the ability to perform absolutely anything he pleases with the power of black magic. The fatal decision catapults him into an intoxicating world of celebrity, as he becomes a world-renowned conjuror, international heartthrob and friend of the rich, famous and powerful. But what is the cost of his insatiable thirst for wealth and fame? Colin Teevan penned the new scenes.

Harington, last on stage in Posh at the Royal Court in 2010, told BBC News that he’s learning the art of illusion for the play. “I see him as a magician in the vein of David Copperfield or David Blaine,” he told the BBC.

As for GOT, Season 6 starts on April 24. Although Harington is still listed among the main cast and has been photographed on set, he and the showrunners have maintained the character of Jon Snow is really dead. Harington told the BBC that fans “should tune in and watch because whatever happens in the next season will be very exciting. But Jon Snow is dead, I’m afraid.”
