The tribute comes in line with the posthumous lifetime achievement award that will be honoured to Bowie at next month’s ceremony, which will take place on 15 February. According to the Independent, the Awards’ executive producer Ken Ehrlich said, "We had already booked Lady Gaga on this year's show, but when David passed, almost in a single moment, we knew we had to change direction… We immediately spoke and agreed that she should be the one to honour David; she's perfect for it." Prior to Bowie’s death, Lady Gaga had spoken of his influence upon her music. The singer told the Hollywood Reporter said, “When I fell in love with David Bowie... I always felt that his glamour was something he was using to express a message to people that was very healing for their souls.” "He is a true, true artist and I don't know if I ever went, 'Oh, I'm going to be that way like this,' or if I arrived upon it slowly, realising it was my calling," Gaga continues. David Bowie passed away on 10 January 2015 at the age of 69 after losing a battle with liver cancer. He will also be honoured at this year’s Brit Awards on 24 January.
