Azerbaijan sitting on mine ready to explode at any moment: military

PanARMENIAN.Net - The PACE-adopted resolution on Sarsang Reservoir is the result of incompetent work by the Armenian side, Major-General Arkady Ter-Tadevosyan said.

On January 26, in a vote of 70-66, the Parliamentary Asembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) disapproved the anti-Armenian report “Escalation of violence in Nagorno Karabakh and other occupied territories of Azerbaijan” prepared by British parliamentarian Robert Walter from the PACE Committee on Political Affairs.

PACE, however, adopted another anti-Armenian report, “Inhabitants of Frontier Regions of Azerbaijan are Deliberately Deprived of Water” by Milica Markovic from Bosnia and Herzegovina, in a vote of 98-71.

As the military official told a news conference, though 45% of the water flows to Azerbaijani side, members of the Armenian delegation to PACE failed to disprove the report, thereby allowing Azerbaijan to denigrate Armenia in the eyes of the international community.

“We need to acknowledge our mistakes and take steps to avoid repeating them,” he said, adding that international experts should be invited to the location to be able “to see the true picture.”

According to Ter-Tadevosyan, Azeri authorities use any pretext to distract society’s attention from gruesome political situation in the country – from escalating tension on the contact line to initiating falsified anti-Armenian reports.

Ter-Tadevosyan believes that the likelihood of Azerbaijani authorities launching attacks on Karabakh is increasing with every passing day. “However, before taking steps, Azerbaijan should understand that it’s sitting on a mine ready to explode at any moment,” Ter-Tadevosyan stressed, adding that Baku will suffer defeat in the event of active hostilities.
