“Mr. Robot” helmer to direct “Midnight Texas” supernatural drama pilot

PanARMENIAN.Net - Mr. Robot’s Niels Arden Oplev has come on board to direct and executive produce Midnight Texas, NBC’s supernatural drama pilot based on bestselling trilogy from author Charlaine Harris, who also wrote Sookie Stackhouse series that was the basis for HBO’s vampire drama True Blood, Deadline said.

Written/executive produced by Monica Owusu-Breen and executive produced by David Janollari through Universal TV, Midnight Texas is described as Twin Peaks meets True Blood in Midnight, Texas, a remote town where your neighbor could be a vampire, a witch, a werewolf, or even an angel. Mystery, horror and romance combine to both enthrall and frighten any outsiders who decide to venture into this unusual place.

For The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo helmer Oplev, the Midnight Texas gig stems from the overall deal he inked with Uni TV in September. He has a strong pilot-directing record, with most of his U.S. pilots to date going to series. That includes USA’s breakout freshman Mr. Robot, a Golden Globe winner for best drama series; NBC’s upcoming Game Of Silence; as well as CBS/A&E’s Unforgettable. Additionally, Oplev helmed the highly rated opening episode of the CBS summer drama series Under The Dome.
