Channing Tatum, Joseph Gordon-Levitt team up for musical comedy

PanARMENIAN.Net - Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are teaming up for a musical comedy, The Hollywood Reporter said.

In a competitive situation, Universal has come out on top to pick up an untitled original project with the two musically inclined thespians attached to star.

Marc Platt, who also produced the musical Wicked, and Adam Siegel will produce for Marc Platt Productions as will Tatum and his partners Reid Carolin and Peter Kiernan for their Free Association company. Gordon-Levitt will also produce with his shingle, hitRECord Films.

Gordon-Levitt hatched the idea with Michael Bacall, who will now write the script. The pair first worked together over 15 years ago when Gordon-Levitt starred in Manic, a drama Bacall co-wrote and acted in. Bacall also worked with Tatum on the 21 Jump Street movies.

Details are being kept under the tap shoes, but the project is described as an R-rated musical comedy featuring two pilots on a misadventure.

Senior vp of production Kristin Lowe will oversee the project for Universal.

Tatum and Gordon-Levitt have certainly shown they aren’t afraid to dance and sing in movies. Tatum has already busted his moves in movies such as Step Up and Magic Mike and this weekend takes his talents to another level with Hail, Caesar! For the Coen Bros’ homage to 1950s Hollywood, he learned to tap dance and sang on camera for the first time to perform one of the movie’s standout sequences, a Gene Kelly-style musical.

Gordon-Levitt performed a show-stopping number in (500) Days of Summer and has sung live on his Pivot network show, Hitrecord on TV! performances. The actor, who showed his range with the recent comedy The Night Before and the true-life drama The Walk, is currently developing a big-screen take on 1980s musical puppet series Fraggle Rock at New Regency.

The two actors first worked together in Havoc, a 2005 Anne Hathaway thriller, and also teamed up for Paramount’s 2008 Iraq War drama Stop-Loss. The two sang and danced onstage together as part of the opening production number at the 2013 Oscars.
