Ridley Scott’s “Alien: Covenant” moved up to August 2017

PanARMENIAN.Net - Fox has moved up the release date for “Alien: Covenant”, Ridley Scott’s sequel to “Prometheus,” by two months to Aug. 4, 2017, from Oct. 6, 2017, according to Variety.

The studio has also pulled Channing Tatum’s “Gambit” and “The Mountains Between Us” from their release dates.

“Alien: Covenant” stars Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Demian Bichir, Jussie Smollett and Danny McBride star. Plot details have not been disclosed for “Alien: Covenant,” the second of what will be a trilogy of films, with principal photography planned for Australia’s New South Wales.

“Prometheus” was set in the late 21st century and about 30 years prior to the events in Scott’s 1979 movie “Alien.”

Fox removed a pair of high-profile projects from its schedule — “The Mountains Between Us,” which had been set for Feb. 10, 2017; and Tatum’s “Gambit,” which had been scheduled for Oct. 7.

Idris Elba has been in talks to star in the romance drama “The Mountain Between Us,” based on Charles Martin’s 2010 bestseller about a surgeon and a woman who fall in love after the plane crashes. Hany Abu-Assad is directing the film, while Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping are producing through Chernin Entertainment.

“Gambit” lost director Rupert Wyatt in September. “Gambit,” which has Doug Liman attached to direct, will be Fox’s eighth “X-Men” film. “X-Men: Apocalypse” bows on May 27, 2016.

“Gambit” could be moved into one of two dates that Fox revealed Sunday for “untitled Fox-Marvel” films — Oct. 6. 2017, which had been the date for “Alien: Convenant” and Jan. 12, 2018. The announcement sparked speculation that the date would be used for a sequel to its surprise blockbuster “Deadpool.”

Fox also moved forward Tim Burton’s “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children” to Sept. 30, from Dec. 25, and moved the James Franco-Bryan Cranston comedy “Why Him?” from Nov. 11 into the Christmas release slot.
