Nintendo’s new patent hints at NX motion controlMarch 12, 2016 - 16:27 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The Nintendo NX is still shrouded in mystery, but that hasn't stopped the rumour mill from grinding like crazy, Digital Spy said. Case in point, a patent filing by the gaming giant for motion and gesture technology has sparked frenzied speculation about the system's interface. Unearthed by NeoGAF user Disorientator, the documents describe a touch-based single-screen portable device with a key infrared component. The system outlined features an infrared camera that maps out shapes and distances, tracking the motions of the user's hands. Several examples of how this could come into play in future Nintendo games are provided, such as pitching and catching in a baseball simulation. Although the patent describes a handheld device, the technology could potentially find its way to the NX, given that it's rumoured to include a portable component. The latest reports suggest that the Nintendo NX will pack the processing power of the Xbox One, while offering the flexibility of a handheld hybrid. It's worth noting that the patent itself dates back to September 2014, but companies often experiment with new technology for a while before bringing it to their products, Digital Spy said. The Nintendo NX is currently without an official release date, although that could change when E3 2016 comes along this summer.
