Smart necklace counts calories while you chewMarch 18, 2016 - 20:00 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - There are countless devices out there for monitoring how many calories you've burned, but measuring how many you've consumed is trickier. Researchers from the University at Buffalo think they have the answer - a smart necklace that is able to tell what you're eating by listening to you chew and swallow, Digital Spy said. The idea is that specific foods make distinct sounds while they're being munched, like apples and carrots, for instance. The AutoDietary Food Necklace keeps track of everything you eat and sends the data to a synced smartphone, complete with dietary recommendations. These could include telling the user to snack less or chew slower. Headed up by assistant professor Wenyao Xu, the team behind the necklace claims that it has the potential to help sufferers of diabetes, obesity, bowel disorders and other ailments. But the device is in the early prototype phase at present and is only able to correctly identify food and drink around 85% of the time. Future iterations of the hardware could include a biomonitor to track blood sugar levels and other data for increased food-tagging accuracy.
