Margot Robbie to play Olympian figure skater Tonya Harding

PanARMENIAN.Net - Margot Robbie could be lacing up her skates to play Olympian figure skater and tabloid star Tonya Harding.

The Suicide Squad star is attached to a feature called, I, Tonya, being developed by Bryan Unkeless and his Clubhouse Pictures, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Robbie would also have a producing role through her LuckyChap Entertainment.

Steven Rogers is writing the screenplay about the blue-collar Harding,, who was pitted against the more elegant Nancy Kerrigan at the 1994 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, where Kerrigan was attacked by a man who struck her a few inches above the knee.

While both Kerrigan and Harding made the Olympic team that headed to the Lillehamer Olympics (where Kerrigan won a silver and Harding finished eighth), the attack was traced back to Harding’s ex-husband Jeff Gillooly and her bodyguard Shawn Eckhardt. Harding struck a plea agreement, admitting to conspiring to hinder prosecution, and was banned from U.S. Figuring Skating and stripped of her 1994 U.S. Championship.

Rogers wrote the recent Love the Coopers and has credits that include 2007’s P.S. I Love You and 2001’s Kate & Leopold.

Robbie is currently appearing on screen in Whiskey Tango Foxtrot and will also be seen in the upcoming The Legend of Tarzan.
