Brussels airport to remain shut through March 29

PanARMENIAN.Net - Brussels airport is preparing to partially resume passenger flights, but not before March 29, the airport said Saturday, March 26, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The airport has been closed since Tuesday, when two Islamic State suicide bombers killed at least 10 people and injured over 100 in the departure hall of the Belgian capital’s main airport. A third bomb, left by an attacker who fled the site, went off without injuring anyone.

“Brussels Airport Company is currently studying a temporary solution to partially resume passenger flights, taking into account the new security measures that apply at Belgian airports, decided by the federal government,” the airport said. “Passenger flights are not expected to resume before Tuesday 29 March, 2016,” it added.

The airport said that the judicial investigation on the site is complete and that its technicians and engineers are being allowed in to assess the damage, WSJ says.

The area where explosions occurred remains sealed off to the public. Police and airport security are carrying out beefed-up identity checks in the access area to the airport, the airport said.
