VivaCell-MTS helps renovate houses in Armenia’s rural areas

PanARMENIAN.Net - The heads of VivaCell-MTS and Fuller Center for Housing Armenia summed up the results of the 2015 housing project in Aragatsotn province.

Throughout 2015, 10 families renovated or completed the construction of their half-built houses in the province.

The heads of the partnering organizations visited Melikgyugh community where 3 families have been assisted through the housing project: a house was purchased and renovated, the construction of another family's half-built house was completed, the roof of the third family's house was replaced and the bearing walls were fortified.

The 8-member Vardanyan family has lived in a trailer for 27 years, forced to endure unbearably cold winters and hot summers. 6 children were born and raised here. Now, the Vardanyans finally get to have a house with proper living conditions.

“They say that hope dies last, but my family at one point gave up the hope of having a home. But miracles happen, and our family story is a proof of it,” said Susambar, the family mother.

“Last year 40 families acquired new houses or renovated their old ones,” said VivaCell-MTS General Manager Ralph Yirikian. “In the framework of the program implemented by VivaCell-MTS and Fuller Center for Housing, the employees of the partnering organizations also participated in the construction works in the provinces of Armenia. This year we have planned to include 40 more families in the housing project providing AMD105 mln to this end.”

“It is noteworthy that the housing project is summed up in this exact house. Out of the 40 families, this one has been living in the most desperate conditions. Witnessing this transformation is a great joy,” said Fuller Center for Housing Armenia President Ashot Yeghiazaryan.

Since 2007, VivaCell-MTS has contributed AMD 228.3 million for the basic reconstruction or renovation of houses thus improving the life quality of 480 socially vulnerable people in 31 villages throughout Armenia’s provinces.
