Bryan Cranston cracks the cartel in “The Infiltrator” trailer (video)

PanARMENIAN.Net - Counting Netflix’s “Narcos,” the Oscar-nominated documentary “Cartel Land” and Lionsgate’s 2015 crime drama “Sicario,” drug cartel stories are feeding viewer screens big and small these days, Variety reports.

Enter “The Infiltrator”, starring Bryan Cranston as real-life DEA agent Robert Mazur, who used his undercover alias “Bob Musella” to infiltrate Pablo Escobar’s powerful underworld empire and crack his money-laundering scheme.

“The Infiltrator,” which Ellen Brown Furman adapted from the autobiography by Robert Mazur, co-stars Diane Kruger (“Inglourious Basterds”), John Leguizamo (“Chef”), Benjamin Bratt (“Traffic”), Yul Vazquez (“Captain Phillips”), and Oscar nominee Amy Ryan (“Gone Baby Gone”).

Set against the excesses of the 1980s, the story follows Mazur/Musella (Cranston), who traded on mob connections to become the confidant to scores within the international underworld and the bankers who enabled them.

Putting his life on the line, he infiltrated the globe’s largest cartels and discovered just how deep into society their influence extended. The operation reeled in key players in a chain stretching all the way to kingpin Escobar. Their arrests would lead to the collapse of the Bank of Credit and Commerce International, and shake the underground economy to its core.

“The Infiltrator” enters theaters July 15.
