Disney confirms “Jungle Book”, “Maleficent” sequels

PanARMENIAN.Net - Disney is laying plans for its future live-action adaptations. The Mouse House has announced release dates for five untitled live-action films in addition to confirming the sequels to "The Jungle Book", "Maleficent" and "Mary Poppins" among others, AceShowbiz reports.

In its Monday, April 25 announcement, the studio booked July 28, 2017 for a fairy tale movie that previously held the December 22, 2017 slot. The other two fairy tale films will occupy April 6, 2018, and December 20, 2019 respectively. Two untitled films not based on fairy tales will open August 3, 2018, and Christmas Day 2018.

There are a lot of source materials that could fit the dates. Disney has confirmed it's making a "101 Dalmatians" spin-off starring Emma Stone, titled "Cruella". Angelina Jolie is also set to reprise her role as the titular character in "Maleficent 2" while director Jon Favreau and scribe Justin Marks are returning for "The Jungle Book II".

The obviously busy company also moves on with its plan to adapt Ava DuVernay-directed "A Wrinkle in Time", Lasse Hallstrom-directed "The Nutcracker and the Four Realms", a Tinker Bell project starring Reese Witherspoon, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson-starring "Jungle Cruise", Tim Burton-directed "Dumbo", Emily Blunt-starring "Mary Poppins" sequel and Lin Manuel-Miranda-starring "Hamilton".
