Elements of explosive material found in blasted bus in Yerevan

PanARMENIAN.Net - Extensive investigative measures are underway to clarify the circumstances of a passenger bus explosion in Yerevan.

According to the National Security Service's preliminary data, a mobile phone card was found at the scene among other things. The holder of the card has been identified as an Armenian citizen who has been twice convicted previously. In addition, trinitrotoluene explosive material, detonators and various types of electrical equipment were found in search and seizure activities carried out by the police at his place of residence.

Elements of trinitrotoluene explosive material were also found in the samples, seized by the police during the examination of the incident.

The operative investigation subdivisions of the National Security Service currently work to identify the second victim through a DNA test.

At this stage of investigation, no evidence of a possible terror attack has been obtained.

2 people were killed and 8 more were injured on Monday, April 25, at around 9:50pm, as a blast hit a bus on Yerevan, Armenia's Halabyan street.

According to a PanARMENIAN.Net correspondent, an item inside a Bogdan bus exploded.

The driver of the vehicle survived the blast, suggesting the blast originated in the middle of the bus.

Extensive investigative measures are underway in the framework of the criminal case opened following the explosion of a passenger bus in Armenia’s capital, Yerevan.

In the interests of the investigation, however, the details are not disclosed, the Investigative Committee said as it answered a question about whether there are detainees or suspects at the moment.
