Disney’s “The Jungle Book” swings past $600M at global box office

PanARMENIAN.Net - Safe to say there’s more than the bare necessities coming to Disney this weekend. Swinging along with the international debut of Captain America: Civil War, the Mouse’s The Jungle Book is crossing $400M overseas. That’s after the Jon Favreau-helmed Jungle-naut passed $600M globally, Deadline said.

The Jungle Book is winning the domestic weekend with an expected $38.8M 3rd frame. The overall totals through April 29 are $219.9M for North America, $386M for international and $605.9M worldwide.

Little Mowgli and the rest of his pack star in the No. 4 film of 2016 to date domestically and globally. As Kaa slithers past $400M offshore, that will take the live-action/CGI pic to the No. 3 spot amongst Western films overseas thus far this year (that “Western” caveat reflects the performance of China’s The Mermaid which grossed a little over $549M).

The Jungle Book, which has received critical praise and struck a chord with four-quadrant audiences, is at around $120M in China, its lead overseas market. The UK, India, Russia, Mexico and France have also been among the top plays. And, there’s still more honey money to come for Baloo in the powerhouse markets of Korea and Japan which open on June 2 on August 11, respectively.
