U2's The Edge makes history with Sistine Chapel performance (video) May 2, 2016 - 17:42 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - U2 guitarist The Edge became the first rock artist to perform at the Sistine Chapel on Saturday night (April 30), NME reports. The guitarist performed an acoustic set as part of the Cellular Horizons conference. Billboard reports he played unplugged versions of U2 songs 'Yahweh,' 'Ordinary World,' and 'Walk On,' plus a cover of Leonard Cohen's 'If It Be Your Will.' "When I was asked to perform in the Sistine Chapel I didn't know what to say, because usually there's 'this other guy' who sings," he said, referencing U2 frontman Bono. "So it took me at least, well, 30 seconds to agree to it." The regenerative medicine conference was held inside the Vatican and has a personal angle for The Edge, whose daughter was diagnosed with leukemia in 2006. Meanwhile, U2 are reported to have more than 50 songs for their next album. The Irish four-piece have been working on the follow-up to their 2014 LP 'Songs Of Innocence' over the last year. Despite The Edge confirming the band have a lot of material for the record, tentatively titled 'Songs Of Experience', he said it's some way off being completed. “It's really hard to say at this point when it will be done. We're definitely still in the weeds here. We're not booking the pressing plant, so to speak, just yet."
