Arrow Films acquires Rocha Minter’s “We Are the Flesh”

PanARMENIAN.Net - Preempting competition, the U.K.-based Arrow Films acquired at Cannes U.S rights to Emiliano Rocha Minter’s “We Are the Flesh”, just days before the movie, one of the most talked-about of Mexican feature debuts in recent years, receives a gala screening at Cannes’ Blood Window, Variety reports.

In order to distribute “We Are the Flesh” in the U.S., Arrow Films will launch its own theatrical distribution operation Stateside.

Headed by Francesco Simeoni, Arrow Films has already acquired U.K. rights. Of other main territories, Donau Films picked up Germany, Blaqout France. Pic’s producer Piano, head by Julio Chavezmontes, releases in Mexico.

A post-Apocalypse parable, in which a young sister and brother are coerced into acts of abandon, “We Are the Flesh” “is a very personal, very powerful film that deeply impressed me. Emiliano Rocha is part of a new generation (of filmmakers) with a potent talent and voice,” Iñarritu told Mexico’s Reforma.

“I loved this film. ‘Tenemos la Carne’ takes over our waking thoughts, like a recurring dream we try to forget, because we are fearful of finding out it may be a memory,” Cuaron wrote in a quote to support the film.

As word built on the film, which had only been seen at the Rotterdam Fest, L.A.’s Paradigm Talent Agency signed up both director Rocha Minter and lead actress Maria Evoli. L.A.-based production-management company Benderspink has also signed on as Rocha Minter’s manager.
