“Zootopia” hits $50M at Japan box office

PanARMENIAN.Net - Zootopia added another $3.95 million (¥439 million) to spend its fourth weekend on top of the box office in Japan, following two frames at No. 2, The Hollywood Reporter said.

The Disney animation film took its total to $50 million from 4.12 million admissions, and with a global cume of $992 million, Japan, its last major market, looks set to help it reach the $1 billion mark.

Wolf Girl and Black Prince, adapted from a manga that has previously been turned into an anime TV series, opened at No. 2 with $2.1 million (¥234 million) from 285 screens.

The Huntsman: Winter's War bowed at No. 3 with an underwhelming $1 million (¥116 million) despite a wide 587-screen release, continuing its underperformance in major markets.

Samurai comedy The Magnificent Nine (Tono, Risoku de Gozaru!) dropped one place to No. 4, while If Cats Disappeared From the World (Sekai kara Neko ga Kieta nara) fell three places to No. 5.

Deadpool will get a rare Wednesday release slot this week, while Southpaw will open Friday.
