Benedict Cumberbatch's "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" pushed back

PanARMENIAN.Net - Benedict Cumberbatch's "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" is coming a year later than expected. Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures have rescheduled the animated remake of "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas" from November 10, 2017 to November 9, 2018, AceShowbiz reveals.

The upcoming remake is an adaptation of Dr. Seuss's 1957 children picture book about a misanthropic green creature who hates Christmas and tries to keep the residents of Whoville from enjoying it. Cumberbatch will voice the title character, while Kaitlyn Maher will voice Cindy Lou Who, a young Who who thinks the Christmas spirit in Whoville is lost.

The reboot of the holiday classic will be directed by Pete Candeland and Yarrow Cheney, based on a screenplay by Michael LeSieur. Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri will serve as the producer alongside Janet Healy and Scott Mosier. Audrey Geisel will executive produce with Chris Renaud.

The first live-action adaptation of Dr. Seuss' children story "How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" was released in 2000. The film was directed by Ron Howard. The titular character was played by Jim Carrey. The film earned $345 million worldwide.

With the delay of the "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" animated remake, 20th Century Fox's Russian spy drama film "Red Sparrow" will become the only major release set for November 10, 2017. It is an adaptation of Jason Matthew's espionage tale directed by Francis Lawrence, who helmed all three "The Hunger Games" sequels.
