Karabakh summit won’t trigger controversy with OSCE: official

PanARMENIAN.Net - Vice-Speaker of Armenia’s Parliament Eduard Sharmazanov told reporters on Wednesday, June 15 that an Armenian-Azerbaijani-Russian presidential meeting on Nagorno Karabakh scheduled for June 20 won't lead to any disagreements with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

“Russia is an OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing state,” Sharmazanov said.

“This is not the first meeting to be organized on one of the co-chairing states’ initiative. France and the United States have organized such meetings as well. And this is not the first time for the co-chairing states to state their common position on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. Both [Russian Foreign Minister Sergey] Lavrov and [U.S. Secretary of State John] Kerry constantly speak on behalf of their partners.”

“The meeting could pave the way for resuming negotiations,” he added.

The OSCE does not take part in works for a tripartite summit on the settlement of the Karabakh conflict, Natacha Rajakovic said Tuesday.

The Kremlin confirmed on June 10 that preparations were underway for a three-party (Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan) summit on the settlement of the conflict.
