“Pacific Rim 2” gets new release dateJuly 1, 2016 - 12:59 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Universal Studios has set the release date for "Pacific Rim 2". The studio scheduled the sequel to "Pacific Rim" to arrive in the United States on February 23, 2018, after putting it on hold. The project was initially set for a summer 2017 release before it was removed from the calendar by the studio, AceShowbiz said. The film will be directed by Steven S. DeKnight from a script by Guillermo del Toro and Travis Beacham. This will be the first Blockbuster movie that DeKnight's directing, after writing for and directing TV shows. John Boyega is signed to star as the son of Stacker Pentecost, a character played by Idris Elba in the first movie. Thomas Tull, Mary Parent, Jon Jashni and del Toro will produce the film along with Boyega and Femi Oguns through their production company, Upper Room Entertainment. The picture is a beach head project for Legendary, under the leadership of Parent. Cale Boyter exec-produces the project that will begin the production later this year.
