Facebook activates Safety Check feature after Nice attack

PanARMENIAN.Net - Facebook has activated its Safety Check feature after a devastating truck attack in Nice, France on Thursday (July 14) left many dead and injured hundreds more, Digital Spy reports.

The tool allows users in the region to let their friends and family know they are safe, and is also a way for others to find out if people they know are unharmed.

It automatically sends users in the affected area a message to ask if they're safe. Once clicked, it notifies all of their Facebook friends.

The social network turned on the feature shortly after news of the tragedy broke.

It's being reported that a truck driver deliberately drove through crowds of people celebrating Bastille Day along the famous Promenade des Anglais and opened fire after crashing.

This is the second time in the last eight months Facebook has activated its Safety Check feature in France, after the November 13, 2015 terrorist attacks in Paris.

The system was launched in October 2014, and has been used following terror attacks in Belgium and Pakistan.
