PanARMENIAN.Net - “Orange Is the New Black” actress Samira Wiley is moving to another streaming service. Wiley signed on to join Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale”, a new series based on the award-winning dystopian novel of the same name by Margaret Atwood, Hulu and MGM Television announced Monday, July 25, according to Variety.

The ten-episode series will star “Mad Men” actress Elisabeth Moss as Offred, a handmaid who is forced into subjugation in an attempt to repopulate the fictional, male-dominated society of Gilead. Wiley has joined the cast as Moira, Offred’s college friend and fellow handmaiden.

“The Handmaid’s Tale” is executive produced and written by Bruce Miller, who is known for his work on TV series such as “Medium” and “ER.” Atwood will serve as a consulting producer for the series.

“I am thrilled that MGM and Hulu are developing ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ as a series, and extra thrilled that the very talented Elisabeth Moss will be playing the central character,” said Atwood when the show was greenlit.

Production is expected to begin this fall in Toronto. “The Handmaid’s Tale” is scheduled to premiere on Hulu in 2017.
