Facebook takes on Snapchat with MSQRD filter optionsAugust 8, 2016 - 11:10 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - First it was the introduction of Instagram stories that had a distinct Snapchat-feeling about it, but now Facebook is continuing in its efforts to take on the photo-sharing app with the introduction of Snap-like filters and geotags, Digital Spy reports. According to TechCrunch, the company is reportedly trialling its instant MSQRD selfie filters in the social feeds of users in Brazil and Canada, who are getting Olympic-themed filters and overlays to play with right up until the end of the Games. Using MSQRD's object recognition software, users can swipe to apply different Olympic filters to the contours of the face, like adding Brazilian flags or the words "Go Canada!" to cheeks and foreheads. Users can also add static graphic overlay filters like "Team Canada" to the photos or videos they're uploading. You know, in a similar style to Snapchat's geofilters. It is hoped that the new functions will help Facebook combat the reported decline in original content sharing, which is thought to have fallen by over 15% since last year. Still, Facebook recently celebrated their most successful year to date, smashing its earning expectations for the last quarter, so they must be doing something right.
