The third feature of Leon, an actor-turned-director, “Kiki” is a Spanish-language adaptation of Josh Lawson’s critically-acclaimed Australian comedy “Little Death.” Written by Leon and Fernando Perez, “Kiki” weaves together five stories dealing with sex and love. The movie, which had a strong box office run in Spain, boasts a well-known ensemble cast, notably Alex García, Natalia De Molina, Ana Katz and Belén Cuesta and León himself, among others. “‘Kiki’ is a fresh comedic farce from Leon and one we’re proud to add to our library,” said Strand Releasing’s Jon Gerrans. The deal was done between Olivier Barbier and Carole Baraton of Wild Bunch and Jon Gerrans of Strand Releasing. “Kiki” was produced by Vertigo Films with the participation of Mediaset Espana and the backing of ICAA. Leon previously directed “Carmina!” which earned nominations at the Goya Awards (Spain’s Oscars) and the European Film Awards. Strand Releasing, whose lineup includes Alain Guiraudie’s “Staying Vertical,” Andrew Ahn’s “Spa Night” and Stephen Dunn’s “Closet Monster,” plans to release “Kiki” in early 2017.
