Niv Kaplan’s mystery-espionage thriller “Tracks” in works as movie

PanARMENIAN.Net - In a pre-Toronto Film Festival movie, Uri Singer’s BB Film Productions has launched development of Niv Kaplan’s mystery-espionage thriller “Tracks”, Variety has learned exclusively.

The project is being repped by Cinetic at the Toronto Film Festival. BB Film has optioned the book’s film and television rights.

“Tracks” centers on a grieving father in Israel who is searching for any traces of his kidnapped child while forming an international organization that tracks other missing children. He turns to a secret outfit for aid then discovers a scheme to use children to spread terror.

“Tracks” was ranked at the top of Amazon’s mystery, thriller and suspense categories after it was released in 2012. It became Amazon’s top seller of any Israeli book.

“Reading ‘Tracks’ makes the reader feel immediately like they are in a movie,” Singer said. “This book feels so relevant and timely, and the subject matter so important that it must be brought to the screen. I am excited to own and be a part of this voyage. Niv, the writer, is already working on the sequel, which again, is so timely and relevant.”

Kaplan was born in an Israeli kibbutz and served in an Israeli reconnaissance outfit in the Israeli Special Forces. He has for more than two decades in the aerospace industry marketing products for fighter aircraft.

Singer’s producing credits include “Experimenter” starring Peter Sarsgaard and Winona Ryder, which premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, and Michael Almereyda’s upcoming “Marjorie Prime” starring Jon Hamm, Tim Robbins, Geena Davis and Lois Smith.

In April, BB Film Productions and Bleiberg Entertainment announced that they would produce “Predilection” to be directed by Marcio Garcia from a screenplay by Nate Parker (“The Birth of a Nation”). The movie is inspired by Garcia’s short, “Predileção,” about a low-level criminal who meets a legendary thief during a brief jail stint.
