Nicolas Cage to star in “Looking Glass” thriller

PanARMENIAN.Net - Nicolas Cage will star in the independent thriller “Looking Glass” with production starting this fall, Variety has learned.

Music video and commercials director Dori Oskowitz will helm from a script by Jerry Rapp (“Mojave Phone Booth”) and Matthew Wilder, who wrote “Dog Eat Dog,” which also starred Cage and premiered at the Cannes International Film Festival.

“Looking Glass” follows a couple who, after experiencing a tragic loss, purchases a desert motel only to discover a series of disturbing, unexplained events that take place within one of the frequently requested rooms. Highland Film Group is handling worldwide sales.

Braxton Pope (“The Canyons”) is producing. Pope just wrapped the Fullscreen series “The Deleted,” written and directed by Bret Easton Ellis, and worked with Cage and Highland Film Group as a producer on the crime thriller “The Trust,” which premiered at SXSW.

Executive producers include Arianne Fraser and Delphine Perrier; Cameron Jones, executive producer of Steven Soderbergh’s “Traffic”; Jason Miller, head of Silver State Production Services; and Mike Nilon of Link. The film will be produced in association with Prettybird Pictures.

“After partnering with Dori early in his career, I am thrilled to bring this remarkable story of voyeurism and grief to the screen with my partners at Highland and Prettybird,” said Pope. “The opportunity to work with Nicolas Cage again, one of our very finest actors, is incredibly exciting.”

Cage can be seen in Oliver Stone’s “Snowden” as Hank Forrester, a former U.S. intelligence officer. He also starred in “U.S.S. Indianapolis: Men of Courage,” which Saban Films is releasing.

Oskowitz directed the EDM documentary “Blackout” for Vice and was nominated for a Grammy for his Jack White video “I’m Shakin.” He has worked on music videos with Pharrell, Cee-Lo, Lenny Kravitz, Wiz Khalifa, Raphael Saadiq, Leon Bridges and a Devendra Banhart short starring Natalie Portman.

Pope also produced Oskowitz’s Passion Pit video “Constant Conversations,” which featured Peter Bogdanovich, Taryn Manning and Analeigh Tipton.

The Highland Film Group slate includes “Terminal,” starring Margot Robbie; “Final Score,” starring Dave Bautista and Pierce Brosnan; “Three Christs,” starring Richard Gere, Julianna Margulies, Peter Dinklage, Walton Goggins and Bradley Whitford; “Braven,” starring Jason Momoa; and Kevin Connolly’s “Gotti,” starring John Travolta.
