Google about to buy Twitter?September 24, 2016 - 11:01 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Just when you thought this was an ordinary Friday, one of the world's biggest social media platforms has seemingly decided to enter into talks with Google about a possible sale, Digital Spy said. That's according to CNBC, which indicates that Twitter is "engaged in conversations with potential suitors that are said to include Google and Salesforce.com, among other technology companies". We're all familiar with search giant Google, with its reach quickly expanding in recent years to everything from autonomous vehicles to artificial intelligence. Salesforce, meanwhile, is not exactly a household name - the US-based company operates in cloud computing for businesses and customer service platforms. Google, of course, is the more interesting potential buyer of the two listed, Digital Spy said. It has previously offered shallow attempts to create influence within social media, with Google Buzz failing before successor Google+ also struggled to rival platforms like Facebook. The benefit of taking over from Twitter is that the user base is already present on a platform that's unique and popular. Where Twitter lags behind in monetisation, Google could potentially pick up the slack, Digital Spy said. The news also sent Twitter's share price to its highest since January at $22.65, although Salesforce was down 3.2pc and Alphabet - Google's parent company - dipped 0.19pc.
