Samsung washing machine owners warned after explosion reportsSeptember 29, 2016 - 14:14 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - If you're in the market for a new smartphone, there's a strong chance you're looking past Samsung after its ongoing battle to halt devices from overheating and exploding. Apparently, though, it's not just new handsets that we should all be worried about blowing up in our faces. In the same month that the company is undergoing a global recall effort, it turns out there also numerous reports that its washing machines are exploding, Digital Spy said. Yep, it appears so, with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issuing a warning saying that there are safety issues with certain models manufactured between March 2011 and April 2016, Digital Spy said. While the Galaxy Note 7 explosions have done their fair share of damage - including the alleged incineration of a truck, no less - you can imagine how a similar malfunction on a washing machine could have devastating effects, Digital Spy said. According to court documents reportedly filed earlier this year, one woman's washer "exploded with such ferocity that it penetrated the interior wall of her garage". Another incident left a woman likening the sound of the explosion to a bomb going off. Samsung has addressed the concerns, though, stating that it was in discussions with the CPSC to address the potential safety issues related to certain top-load washing machines. The South Korean tech giant also said: "It is important to note that Samsung customers have completed hundreds of millions of loads without incident since 2011. "In rare cases, affected units may experience abnormal vibrations that could pose a risk of personal injury or property damage when washing bedding, bulky or water-resistant items. Samsung is recommending that consumers with affected models use the lower speed delicate cycle when washing those items."
