Leaked code hints at Half-Life VR

PanARMENIAN.Net - Various files found inside Valve products recently seem to hint at the existence of a Half-Life VR project, Digital Spy said.

As reported by the Valve News Network, when players began digging within Destinations - a virtual reality app developed by Valve - sets of strings were found that make reference to a project entitled "HLVR".

Specific strings included "C_HLVR_TeleportController" and "CHLVRPropFlaslight", suggesting that somewhere within the hidden bowels of Valve, someone is constructing a Half-Life VR gaming experience.

Just as compelling are lines of code found in a recent Dota 2 update that patently don't belong in the game. Code replicating broken glass was discovered within Dota 2 post-update, which didn't quite sit right between the layers of other code for the game.

The fragments have since been assembled successfully, but no-one seems to be able to tell why it is there.

Another set of code was discovered that appears to control speech with NPCs within what could be Half-Life VR.

Valve News Network speculates that the prompt within the code for players to respond in the conversation is a sign that Gordon Freeman (famously mute) will not feature in a Half-Life VR game.

The code is appearing in more places according to Valve News Network , although as of yet there is no guarantee that "HLVR" has anything to do with Half-Life, or that the project, if it existed in any significant form, is still running.

There's something about Valve's closed approach to its inner machinations which drives people wild, so much so that back in 2003 one person stole the Half-Life 2 source code from Valve's internal servers.

As long as there are hints that The Freeman, or Alyx Vance, may return, the community will continue digging fervently, Digital Spy said.
