STX plans “Bad Dads” as “Bad Moms” comedy spinoff

PanARMENIAN.Net - STX Entertaintmet is planning a “Bad Dads” movie as a spinoff from its “Bad Moms” comedy and plans to release the film on July 14, 2017, Variety reports.

“Bad Moms” has grossed nearly $180 million worldwide at the box office, making it the most successful release by far for two-year-old STX.

STX Entertainment’s Motion Picture Group said Monday, October 10 that it has numerous takes on this spinoff and will reveal additional details shortly.

“Where other studios have automatically green lit traditional and significantly more expensive sequels, STX has determined those sequels on average are grossing 68% less than the originals,” the studio said. “Instead, STX has chosen to focus on extending consumer passion for the Bad Moms brand with a series of film spin-offs, a reality television show, short form digital content, and a robust consumer products program.”

“Bad Moms” was produced for $20 million and opened to $23.8 million at the U.S. box office on the weekend of July 29-31 and wound up with $113 million. The multiple from the opening weekend was 4.7 for the highest opening weekend multiple of any film released this year, according to STX’s release.

The film was directed and written by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore. Cast included Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, Kathryn Hahn, Jay Hernandez, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Christina Applegate.
