Rosemarie DeWitt to star in “Song of Back and Neck”

PanARMENIAN.Net - Rosemarie DeWitt and Brian d’Arcy James will star in Paul Lieberstein’s feature film directorial debut “Song of Back and Neck”, Variety reports.

The dark comedy also stars Robert Pine, Sam Anderson and Paul Feig, director of “Ghostbusters,” “Spy” and “Bridesmaids.” The film follows the life of the repressed Fred Trolleycar, played by Lieberstein, on a journey to find the cure to his chronic back pain.

Lieberstein is best known as a writer and producer who also played Toby Flenderson on the U.S. version of “The Office.” He directed episodes of “The Mindy Project,” The Newsroom” and “The Office” on which he also served as showrunner during four seasons.

Lieberstein wrote the original screenplay for “Song of Back and Neck” during his last year on “The Office.” The script was partially inspired by his own battle with his back, which was cured after reading Dr. John Sarno’s “Healing Back Pain,” given to him by his wife.

The film is produced by Lieberstein and Starstream’s Kim Leadford and Jennifer Prediger and executive produced by Fernando Loureiro and Roberto Vasconcellos at Exhibit. This is the second film Exhibit and StarStream have produced together this year following Jeff Baena’s ‘The Little Hours.”

“If Charlie Kaufman and Buster Keaton had a baby with a bad back, it would be Paul Lieberstein’s painfully funny first feature,” Prediger said.

The movie is the fourth of six features slated for Starstream this year, which includes Taran Killam’s feature directorial debut “Why We’re Killing Gunther,” starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

DeWitt’s credits include “Poltergeist,” “La La Land,” “United States of Tara” and “Rachel Getting Married. D’Arcy James starred in “Spotlight.”

Starstream’s credits include “Life of Crime,” “Life After Beth,” “Yoga Hosers, “Joshy” and “Huntsville.” Exhibit produced “Thumper” and “Sweet Virginia” and executive produced “The Little Hours” and “First Light.”
