The next iPhone “to get major battery boost from AI”October 18, 2016 - 11:38 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - While the iPhone 7 introduced an impressive new haptic home button and the usual improvements to its camera, it wasn't the substantial upgrade everyone wanted. Reports have indicated for months that the Cupertino company shelved many of its improvements for the anniversary edition of its device next year, though they may not be exactly what you had in mind. While it's likely the iPhone will undergo a cosmetic change in its next update, the more crucial differences could come from developments in artificial intelligence. That's if recent comments by Apple CEO Tim Cook are anything to follow, with the supremo dropping hints to Nikkei ahead of the opening of a research and development facility in Yokohama, Digital Spy said. "[Artificial intelligence] is horizontal in nature, running across all products. We want the AI to increase your battery life," he said. The leap into deeper AI could be crucial for the next wave of smartphones, with Google and Amazon researching in the same area to replace Apple atop the smartphone tree, Digital Spy said. Cook also answered questions about taking over from the transcendent, late Steve Jobs, who passed away five years ago. "I never tried to replace him," Cook said. "I've just tried to be myself and do the best thing that I can do. I think if he were here, I would have loved it, because I would have loved going through many of these things with him. But it unfortunately wasn't to be." Jobs, of course, initiated a fresh era of smartphones with the initial iPhone release back in 2007, with Cook seemingly excited about the immediate future of the product, Digital Spy said. "We are not even teenagers yet. We just got going," said Cook. "I think there is an incredible future ahead."
