Comedic legend Carol Burnett to star in ABC comedy from Amy Poehler

PanARMENIAN.Net - Carol Burnett is returning to the small screen. The comedic legend is set to star in an untitled multicamera comedy from executive producer Amy Poehler, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The project, which hails from Universal Television, centers on a family who gets the chance to buy the house of their dreams — one that they could never afford — on the condition that they live with the current owner, an older actress (Burnett), until she dies.

Michael Saltzman, who grew up idolizing Burnett, will pen the script for the comedy that landed at ABC in a competitive situation. The network has handed out a hefty put-pilot commitment for the project.

Poehler will executive produce the comedy via her Universal TV-based Paper Kite banner. Other exec producers include Brooke Posch, Dave Becky and Michael Pelmont.

Saltzman's credits include Mad Men, The Middle, Murphy Brown and Wings. He is repped by Vision Art Management. The Burnett comedy marks his return to multicam.

The ABC comedy marks Burnett's return to acting. Over her legendary career, which has included The Carol Burnett Show, Mad About You and Carol & Company as well as episodes of Glee and Hawaii Five-O, the actress has scored 22 Emmy nominations. She is repped by ICM Partners and Lurie & Zepada.

For Poehler, the Burnett project marks her latest as an executive producer. She previously teamed with Tina Fey to present Burnett with the SAG Lifetime Achievement award this year where both discussed the impact the actress had on them.
