“The Other End” wins top prize at Rio Film Fest

PanARMENIAN.Net - Felipe Sholl’s The Other End topped the Redentor Awards, presented to local productions in the Premiere Brazil competition of the Rio Film Festival, The Hollywood Reporter reveals.

Scholl's quirky modern comedy, which was named best film, also saw leading actress Karine Teles take home the best actress award.

Cristiane Oliveira’s A Woman and the Father was the other big winner in Brazil's main film festival, receiving a best director award, a shared best cinematography prize for Heloisa Passos and best supporting actress honors for newcomer Verónica Perrotta.

The fest's jury was composed of Charles Tesson, artistic director of Cannes’ Critics' Week, who served as president; film directors Maria Augusta Ramos and Sandra Kogut; and Brazilian actor Rodrigo Santoro, whose latest feature film Dominion had its world premiere in the Panorama world cinema section.

The Rio Film Festival, which ran Oct. 6-16, screened over 250 international and local films in more than 20 locations around the city with almost 200,000 tickets sold, according to organizers.
