Mel Gibson talks "The Passion of the Christ" sequel, confirms title

PanARMENIAN.Net - Mel Gibson has confirmed that the sequel to "The Passion of the Christ" will be titled "Resurrection (2018)", AceShowbiz reports. While appearing on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert", the 60-year-old filmmaker also talked to Stephen Colbert about how he would tell the story of the resurrection of Jesus.

"It's more than a single event, it's an amazing event," Mel said. "It's not just about the event. It's not some kind of chronological telling of just that event. That could be boring." The Oscar winner added, "What if the other things around that happen," before teasing "there is another realm" that he would include in the movie.

Randall Wallace is on board to pen the screenplay for the follow-up to the 2004 Biblical blockbuster. Randall, who was a religion major at Duke University, said back in June that the resurrection was a specialty of his. "I always wanted to tell this story," the "Pearl Harbor" scribe shared. " 'The Passion' is the beginning and there's a lot more story to tell."

"The Passion of the Christ" starred James Caviezel as Jesus Christ and grossed a whopping $612 million worldwide on a $30 million production budget. It is the highest grossing religious film, the second highest-grossing R-rated film in the U.S. and the highest grossing non-English-language film of all time. It also received three nominations at the 77th Academy Awards.
