Netflix renews “Longmire” for 6th and final season

PanARMENIAN.Net - Netflix is giving Western Longmire a proper send-off. The streaming giant has renewed the Katee Sackhoff starrer for a sixth and final season, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Season six, which will consist of 10 episodes, will premiere in 2017 in the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The pickup means the Warner Horizon Television-produced series will have spent its first three seasons (33 episodes) on A&E, with Netflix's three-season run nearly matching that total (30 episodes).

There has been no better team to work with on this show than Greer, Hunt and John, and their tremendous cast and crew, and we have every confidence that they will have a satisfying conclusion to this revered series. We are grateful to them and our friends at Warner Bros., who have been tremendous partners,” Netflix vp, originals Cindy Holland said.

Longmire, based on the Walt Longmire novels from author Craig Johnson, co-stars Lou Diamond Phillips, Cassidy Freeman, Adam Bartley and A. Martinez. The series moved to Netflix after sources say the drama skewed too old for A&E, which canceled Longmire after three seasons.

For Netflix, Longmire joins a short roster of scripted originals that the streaming platform has canceled/ended, including Hemlock Grove, Lilyhammer, The Killing and Bloodline, the latter of which also will conclude in 2017 after three seasons.

Longmire is one of only a handful of series produced by Warner Bros. Television on Netflix. It joins the Gilmore Girls revival (due this month), Fuller House as well as Chuck Lorre's upcoming pot comedy, Disjointed.
