“Paradise” Russian Oscar entry sells to multiple territories

PanARMENIAN.Net - Russia’s entry for the foreign-language Oscar race, “Paradise”, for which Andrei Konchalovsky won the Silver Lion for best director at the Venice Film Festival, has been sold to multiple territories by sales agent Arri Media. The Holocaust drama is being screened at AFM.

The pic centers on a Russian aristocrat sent to a Nazi concentration camp, where she crosses paths with an SS officer with whom she shares a romantic past. The affair is re-kindled, and the couple embarks on a twisted and destructive relationship.

Distribution deals have been signed with Artfest (Bulgaria), Time in Portrait (China), MCF Megacom (Ex-Yugoslavia), SevenGroup (Greece), Viggo (Italy), Contact Film (Belgium/Netherlands), Legendmain (Portugal), and Film Buro (Spain).

Arri Media is in final negotiations for a sale to the U.S./Canada, and also is in talks with licensees from Latin America. CIS and France are being handled by Antipode Sales, and U.K. rights are held by TAKT Film Company.

The film’s market premiere at AFM is on Nov. 6 at 3 p.m. at Broadway Cineplex 1.
