Distrib Films US acquires Cannes drama “After Love”

PanARMENIAN.Net - New-York based Distrib Films US has acquired Joachim Lafosse ‘s “After Love”, which played at Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes in May, and “The Country Doctor,” Thomas Lilti’s follow up to 2014’s “Hippocrates, Diary of a French Doctor,” Variety said.

Sold by Le Pacte, “After Love” stars Berenice Bejo, the Oscar-nominated actress of “The Artist,” and helmer-turned-actor Cedric Kahn as a married couple with two young daughters who decide to divorce but continue living under the same roof for financial reasons.

Distrib Films US, which previously handled Lafosse’s “Our Children,” is planning a platform release kicking off next May.

“Lafosse is a singular filmmakers and his movies are daring,” said François Scippa-Kohn, president of Distrib Films US. “This movie, in particular, depicts the downfall of a marriage, which is a universal theme, and it’s got this French elegance that should lure audiences and critics in New York and Los Angeles.”

Distrib Films US will release “The Country Doctor,” a medical drama starring Francois Cluzet, during the second quarter of 2017 in New York and Los Angeles.

The company had released “Hippocrates,” which marked Lilti’s directorial debut and was a standout at Directors’ Fortnight. ” “It’s important for us to cultivate relationships with talented emerging directors.

Both deals were negotiated by Camille Neel, head of sales at Le Pacte, and Scippa-Kohn.

Launched three years ago by Scippa-Kohn, Distrib US has traditionally focused on French movies and is now opening up to European productions.
