Pouzin is in Armenia to receive the 2016 Annual GIT Gold Medal Award through his innovation in the sphere of global IT. The formal award ceremony will take place on Tuesday at the Presidential Palace. Inaugurated in 2009 by the Decree of the President, the Award is granted on an annual basis to an individual, whose internationally acclaimed contributions to IT have resulted in near-revolutionary or revolutionary developments that have positively impacted or hold the potential to positively impact humanity.
Louis Pouzin is the seventh GIT Award laureate. Armenia hosted several international titans in the previous years, including the retired CEO/Chairman of the Board of Intel Corporation Craig Barrett (2010), co-founder of Apple Computers, Inc. Steve Wozniak (2011), Chairman Emeritus of Synaptics, Inc. Federico Faggin (2012), President of the Society of Semiconductor Industry Specialists, President of Techno Vision consulting firm Tsugio Makimoto (2013), Senior Vice President and General Manager for the Insieme Business Unit at Cisco Mario Mazzola (2014), and Chairman and CEO of Kaspersky Lab. “Visits of Louis Pouzin and other prominent laureates of the Award to Armenia, their lectures and meetings with the representatives and students in ICT sphere are of paramount importance. Apart from fostering our country’s reputation on international platforms, these meetings are also invaluable in terms of presenting innovative ideas, as well as boosting the creative potential and the will of both professional ICT specialists and beginners to aspire and achieve new heights in professional and personal development,” said Yirikian.
“Few believed at the beginning that such a high-level event can be organized in Armenia, and that internationally acclaimed figures in the ICT sphere will arrive every year to receive the award. Seven years have passed since, and no one now feels skepticism about the success of the initiative. We have truly succeeded and every year we have an opportunity to invite legendary figures in the sphere of ICT who increase the awareness about Armenia and promote our country’s image internationally,” said Musaelyan.
“We are extremely delighted that we have been able to convince Mr. Louis Pouzin to accept the GIT award. His dedication to the design and implementation of the technology is recognized to be the fundamental technology from which TCP/IP was derived. This is what Internet is built upon. He is recognized as an early Father of Internet. Here we accomplish our continued commitment to uphold the very high, enviable and unparalleled standard of GIT Presidential Gold Medal,” Moroyan said.
The Award for Outstanding Contribution to Global IT is important in terms of creating new opportunities for the development of the ICT sphere in Armenia and putting the state on the world’s ICT map as a country that has a huge yet unrealized potential in the sphere of high technologies. VivaCell-MTS is confident that the Armenian youth has exceptional qualities and potential for self-development, and it’s necessary to support them to fully unveil their potential. The Award is also a serious promotion of the ICT sphere among the young generation.
VivaCell-MTS has been the sponsor of the initiative for seven years. The Company has allocated AMD 144.2 million for the realization of the program.
